El equipo de fútbol se entrena para la Universiada, que organiza la Fedup
Con mentalidad ganadora. El equipo de fútbol de la Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego (UPAO) se entrena para competir en una nueva edición de los Juegos Universitarios Nacionales, que organiza la Federación Deportiva Universitaria del Perú (Fedup). El certamen multideportivo se disputará del 27 de setiembre al 17 de octubre.
“Estamos fortaleciendo el estado físico de los jugadores, considerando que el campeonato se desarrollará a 2300 m sobre el nivel del mar. Para esta competencia necesitamos mejorar la resistencia, y la preparación física es muy importante”, comentó el director técnico Francisco García Escobar.
La selección de fútbol orreguiana realiza sus entrenamientos en el moderno complejo deportivo UPAO (Campus UPAO II). Los trabajos de resistencia están a cargo del preparador físico Tomás Vargas Barreto. Para intensificar el entrenamiento, los fines de semana el equipo se dirigirá a Salaverry para trotar en los cerros.
“Nos hemos propuesto para este año, del bicentenario de la Fedup, repetir el título que logramos el 2001, precisamente en Arequipa. El seleccionado, dirigido por el profesor Luis Vásquez Vásquez, logró la hazaña, tras superar a la Universidad Nacional de Tumbes por 2 a 1”, añade García Escobar.
