Con motivo de celebrar a san Valentín, el patrón de Trujillo
Momentos emotivos se vivieron en los
pasadizos de la Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego (UPAO) cuando los
estudiantes, docentes y trabajadores fueron sorprendidos con regalos simbólicos
por el Día del Amor y la Amistad, el 14 de febrero, Día de San Valentín,
patrono de Trujillo.
Desde muy tempranas horas, el personal de
la Oficina de Bienestar Social, dependencia de la Dirección de Recursos
Humanos, acompañado por un grupo de arlequines, ofreció una activación que
incluía una fotografía y un presente que endulzó la calurosa mañana.
La Oficina de Imagen Institucional también
hizo lo suyo con motivo de esta celebración, emocionando a las estudiantes con
una rosa, flor que simboliza el dulce sentimiento del amor y la amistad, y que
en esta oportunidad fue entregada por el carismático Pumita UPAO.
Esta manifestación de alegría y afecto se
extendió también al personal de la Torre UPAO (en la Urb. Natasha Alta), el
campus II (sector Nuevo Barraza), el Establecimiento de Salud UPAO-Florencia de
Mora y el hospital Walter Cruz Vilca (Alto Moche).
Origen
de la celebración
Cuentan los historiadores que el Día del
Amor y la Amistad tiene su germen en el siglo III, en los tiempos del emperador
romano Claudio II el Gótico, que prohibió los matrimonios de los más jóvenes,
pues consideraba que los solteros, sin mujer e hijos, eran mejores soldados,
por tener menos ataduras y vínculos sentimentales.
El sacerdote Valentín, en oposición al
emperador, celebró matrimonios en secreto entre los jóvenes enamorados, además
de lograr la conversión de estos al cristianismo. Enterado de esto el
emperador, Valentín fue arrestado y confinado en una mazmorra, para, más
adelante, el 14 de febrero del año 270, ser lapidado y decapitado.
Valentín se convirtió en una leyenda. En
el año 494, el papa Gelasio I decidió declarar el 14 de febrero como el Día de
San Valentín, una fecha en la que se celebra el triunfo del amor.
Con el tiempo, se sumó a la celebración
uno de los valores fundamentales de la sociedad: la amistad.
Patrono
de Trujillo
Por otro lado, el 14 de febrero de 1619
ocurrió un gran terremoto en la colonial ciudad de Trujillo. Dado esto, debido
a que quedó prácticamente destruida, el virrey Francisco de Borja y Aragón
nombró una comisión para iniciar su reconstrucción.
En este proceso se decidió encomendar la ciudad a un santo patrón. Así
fue que, el 12 de febrero de 1627, el cabildo trujillano decidió nombrar como
protector a san Valentín, tomando en cuenta la coincidencia del día en que
