En curso internacional de actualización médica fetal y uroginecología, en la UPAO
“La
medicina fetal ha evolucionado notablemente y uno de los indicadores de ese
desarrollo es la aplicación de la tecnología. Hoy podemos diagnosticar
malformaciones del feto. Además, el feto es abordado como un paciente. Así lo
enfatizó la especialista en medicina maternofetal Carmen Gaona (mexicana) en el
Primer Curso Internacional de Actualización Médica Fetal y Uroginecología.
El
curso internacional fue organizado por la Unidad de Medicina Materno-Fetal del
Hospital Belén y el Instituto de Competencias y Destrezas Médicas (Icodem) de
la Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego, con ocasión de los 25 años de creación
de la Facultad de Medicina Humana de la UPAO.
“Los
avances tecnológicos aplicados a la medicina fetal nos permiten evaluar al feto
como un paciente, con independencia de la madre. Antes se creía que, si una
madre estaba saludable, en consecuencia, el feto también lo estaría. Sin
embargo, hoy la realidad nos muestra que no existe una relación causal”,
precisa la doctora Gaona Tapia.
“Gracias
a la tecnología y desarrollo de la medicina fetal —agregó la especialista—,
durante la gestación se puede diagnosticar si está creciendo en el vientre
materno un niño con la condición de síndrome de Down”.
Otra
de las especialistas, la doctora Sandra Acevedo Gallegos, también de México,
destacó que se debe controlar la administración de esteroides en las gestantes,
evitar los excesos.
La cita académica se realizó en el Teatro Víctor Raúl Lozano Ibáñez. Como expositores también intervinieron otros prominentes profesionales de Argentina, Estados Unidos, Brasil, Colombia y Perú. (APB/RRC – PRENSA UPAO).
